Friday, June 17, 2005 - Luscious notes of tropical fruits, lemons, pears and toasty hard candy. A little bit thin in the mouth, but I still like the intensity of the fruit throughout. Medium finish of toasty syrupy lemon and a hint of butter scotch. And smoke, I've found the Red Shoulder to have a signature characteristic of smoke. It does finish a little bit tart at the end. I'm not worried about this wine dying anytime soon, I've been tasting the Red Shoulder from it's first vintage and it has outlasted everyone's expectations (including Doug Shafer's when I asked him about it several years ago).
