90 Points

Sunday, July 10, 2005 - Drunk over sunday lunch with a good friend along with some beef in hoi sin sauce. Wine was decanted around 2 hours before drinking. Masses of graphite/lead pencil somewhat overwhelmed the fruit in my opinion. First few tastes had quite a tight finish with some medium-strong tannins still present. However, these faded pretty quickly to leave a nicely balanced wine but one that clearly has plenty of life left in it yet. Confirmed my general impression of the 88s - "classical clarets" of good balance and relatively good QPR but without much power or sweet fruit to make them very memorable.
