93 Points

Saturday, January 9, 2021 - Purchased from a reseller of other people’s cellars in 2014. Decanted at 5pm and tasted from 6:30pm onwards. Labeled as 13.5% ABV. Pristine bottle, lightly translucent, medium to dark garnet crimson with little to no bricking. Youthful looking and tasting. Nose has light florals, anise, cherry, hints of alcohol and herbal notes. Modest tannin, mostly integrated, bright acidity. Flavor profile is very Brunello typical with cherry, licorice and earthy notes. This definitely needs the air in a decanter. At least a couple hours...it seemed best to me around the 3 hour point, was quite closed initially but got more rich and meaty with more air. Medium body but long on the finish...45+ seconds. Delicious with grilled steaks. Well cellared, this seems to have plenty of life left.

p.s. I tasted this 48 hours later just having been recorked and sitting on the counter...it was pleasant to drink but the fruit did not evolve favorably as was the case with the ‘97 Tig.
