Monday, April 17, 2023 - Coravin. 55% Cab Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 5% Cab Franc. Deep ruby-purple with slight bricking, youthful for its age; aromatic, green bell pepper, pronounced and pure blackcurrant (probably the closest I've ever smelled to the "Le Nez du Vin" blackcurrant sample), excellent intensity of aromatics; palate is medium-full bodied, elegant medium balanced acidity, medium (13%) alcohol, definitely some pyrazines/bell pepper, fruit is present but more in the background; medium length finish. Classic Sociando Mallet, would be difficult to guess as 2003 given its restraint and its pyrazines. Showing much less vanilla and youth compared to my last bottle in 2014, and this is a solid quality bordeaux ready for drinking now and over the next decade. 91
6 hours in a thin decanter. Aromatics still pretty and largely the same; palate is starting to integrate even better but still seems like it has a ways to go. No rush on these... there is a slight bitterness on the finish that I think will integrate with another 5-10 years.
Remainder of the bottle opened: Good tannin, acidity, and alcohol balance. Lovely wine, seems like it will continue to evolve positively for a decade based on my tasting of this over time.
