Saturday, March 11, 2017 - Stored in a temperature controlled cellar since purchase upon release. Based on the recommendation of other tasters, we decanted for 2-3 hours before drinking, and this indeed proved important. At first, the nose was completely closed, with very little in the mouth (it was a tad harsh as well). But at the 2-3 hour mark, lovely aromas of cedar, underbrush, graphite, and chocolate emerged, with spice and rose pedal noted with further time. In the mouth, flavors of dark fruits, licorice, spice, dark chocolate, and a subtle roasted note flow to a solid finish. It's not the most massive wine, but there's certainly a good deal of substance and concentration. Very enjoyable, but only after a good decant - it really started to sing at the 5 hour mark. We sensed no signs of anything fading, although it might be possible to misinterpret this if consumed too quickly without decanting. If I had more, I'd hold another 4-5 years, but keep a close eye on what other tasters are reporting.
