Thursday, October 19, 2017 - Decanted with lots of chunky sediment. Nose: animale, leather glove, hay, tobacco, tomato leaf. Palate has tons to offer, and very little of it is fruit. Tobacco, leather, soy, tomato leaf, blueberry, and a bit of cranberry and blackcurrant pastille at the end. Manly but not without grace. Good concentration, supple texture, mouthwatering acidity and well integrated tannins. Not the longest finish. Definitely a Bordeaux for Chinon lovers - hard to believe it has 40% merlot and just 5% cab franc.
Day 2, after vacuum pumped and put in the fridge. Funkiness has receded, and crunchy red fruit to the fore. Tannins a bit more noticeable without the funk.
