Thursday, May 2, 2019 - I bought a few cases back in the day, and it is starting to feel like an absolute bargain and, indeed is still great value for money and for myself the best Sociando Mallet drinking. This has really come to life in the last year, and is entering its prime drinking window, and age seems to have ironed out some initial clumsiness. The nose is now expressive and possesses a good bouquet of blackcurrant, plum and cedar. The palate is demonstrating secondary characteristics, and the tannin is more muted, but in perfect balance. I never thought the wine would shrug off its tannic profile, but it is almost uncharacteristically smooth for the estate. The finish has transformed completely over the last year and is now 30 seconds plus and in total harmony with an exceptional depth.
