Thursday, December 19, 2019 - The climate of the vintage did not suit all wines, but it conspired to create the greatest Sociando Mallet of the past few decades. This is a powerhouse of a wine and is just entering its peak drinking window. The nose is opulent with blackcurrant, plum, and cedar with aromas that linger. The palate does still display some typical characteristics of the estate with robust tannin, but it is resolved and in perfect balance. There is good depth and secondary notes. I do concur with other reviews regarding the finish, and it is in contrast with the rest of the wine typically austere. However, that said it is lengthy and balanced. This should stay here for the next decade or more, and should continue to develop over the next couple of years.
