Sunday, October 29, 2023 - Colour a bit brown and muddy; fair amount of sediment. Decanted. Really great nose - wow. All those deep, rich tertiaries: leather, figs, dates, treacle, chocolate/cocoa, wet earth. I love this - it's serious, emotional, melancholy (in a poetic, not dispiriting sense). It's fresh but also a tiny bit bitter. The fruit is advanced but not at all dying. Excellent spicy character. Nutty as well - crushed hazelnuts, walnuts. Deep, dark chocolate truffles and a zesty moment at the end - almost like limes. Very impressive and charismatic. Often (for me) too bitter and demanding when young. But Dido is clearly great with a couple of decades of age. Worth the wait!
