Saturday, September 7, 2013 - Dinner at home with friends who brought this bottle. My first Hermitage, and what a wine. Intriguing nose with dark fruit and spices. Pepper yes, but was also getting something like a sweet curry touch. Absolutely lovely texture of the palate. Fine tannins and the right dose of acidity make it crunchy and precisely delineated. Impressively long finish (95).
A very nice contrast to the 92 Mount Edelstone which was showing just as well as last time. While quality-wise almost at par with the Hermitage in my eyes, it has richer and sweeter flavors (more of the blueberry pie, dark chocolate camp) with an equally long finish. Would go for the Hermitage but perhaps more a question of style preference than quality. (94)
