Sunday, January 23, 2022 - Capping off the birthday weekend with a little gold capsule Auslese. I say little because it’s not in any way the behemoth of the 2001 version. Instead it’s normal, the way such wines used to be, prior to the inflating effects of climate change. Twenty years on it’s still youthful, with lots of primary golden delicious apple, peach and even a bit of mango fruit. The acidity is completely integrated into the wine, so it’s fresh but not hard wired. I suspect it will ride along this balance point for a very long time, always being a welcoming, delicious wine. Nothing wrong with that!
