Monday, February 14, 2005 - A hedonistic wine like this deserves to be drunk on Valentine's Day.

Last time I tasted this wine I only had a few sips. This time I got to share a bottle and spend some time with it.

I got a lot of floral notes on the nose -- violets, ripe fruit, tar, even a bit of dill. The fragrance is intense. The tannins are quite mild, and although there isn't a lot of acid, I didn't find the wine unacceptably flabby. The alcohol is prodigious (16%), but that doesn't come across on the nose or the palate. Still, it's clearly a wine to take care with.
