95 Points

Monday, November 13, 2017 - 2017 Villa d’Este Wine Symposium - Kelly and Kevin's excellent adventure; 11/9/2017-11/14/2017 (Villa D’este, Lake Como and Milan): Served blind, we are thinking Pinot, very pure red fruit, raspberry and strawberry, perfume, anise and strong mineral. Beautiful harmonious palate, very fined layered sweet pure red fruit, silky and fluid, perfect amount of mineral and a long sweet red fruit driven finish. There is a hint of heat/alcohol at the end. The nose and palate are very Pinot but too sweet and too alcoholic to be Burgundy. MY guess is a German pinot or a small production wine from Etna. We are pleasantly surprised. This is a Rayas junior, i.e. similar but a bit gentler and not as decadent, if that makes sense.
