Sunday, September 22, 2019 - Long tears stain the glass , with a little fading at the rim. The nose is a muted medium of plums, vanilla and cherries, chocolate menthol, spicy almond, and delicate white flowers. Medium bodied, with high acidity, the palate shows flavours of sour plums, and currants with a dry spicy finish. Light and acidic, this wine does the job with food. Lacks sufficient fruit for long aging. In the past would have been classed as " a luncheon claret " - a lovely expression conjuring up images of leathery gentlemen's clubs in London's Pall Mall! At £13 ( $15 ) from German discount retailer Lidl , this represented exceptional value.
