Tuesday, September 2, 2014 - Matt Rorick has never made such a mouth-friendly wine. Decanted 1 hr. ahead. Very dark, almost black garnet. Nice nose of plums, cherries, candle smoke, black pepper. Immensely fruit-forward on the palate, as the cherries and berries engulf the scene. Acid balance is toward smoothness, which takes this wine in the direction of a Beaujolais except that this is Barbera with its attendant red-fruit character. It's positively tooth-staining. There are other earthy flavors here and they are down the list, though they emerged with more air. Finishes well, with some grip and light tannins. This wine is even more fruit-forward than its cousin, the San Hercurmer Delle Frecce, and it's one of the better unsulphured wines I have had in a long time. A most ingratiating bottle of juice, and I do mean juicy.
