Monday, May 30, 2016 - Deep purple in the glass. Viscous, extracted, and brooding. On the nose, a plethora of dark fruits including blackberries, blueberries, black currants, huckleberries, and dark cherries followed by some serious Rutherford dust and well integrated but still noticeable oak that loaned a nice touch of vanilla and baking spices. No animale notes just yet but they are not too far off. Palate followed up with the nose but even after a 3 hour decant the tannins were still grainy and there was a bitter cocoa/coffee note on the finish that wasn't my favorite. All in all a nice wine but needs 3-5 years before revisiting.
