Tuesday, August 25, 2020 - Sigh…Not sure what to say here. The wine was good. Very classic. I’m not a great blind taster, but I would have pegged this as a quality white Burgundy pretty easily; classic flavors of yellow apple, pear, citrus, crushed white stones, light creaminess on the palate.
So why start this review with a sigh? It’s the high price of entry and the crazy hype around this producer. I had tried, and been mostly underwhelmed, by a few young PYCM entry-level bottlings that I found dominated by enamel-melting acidity and shotgun-barrel reduction that effaced any discernible complexity. But given all the hype, I laid down my money for a well stored premier cru in a prime drinking window. The bottle was sound and fresh as a daisy. As I said, it was good; a well-made white Burgundy that I just can’t get super excited about. I’ve had a few eye-closing, involuntary moaning-ly fantastic white Burgundy experiences for similar (or lower) price. I was hoping for something similar; I’m probably suffering from a case of too high expectations. Bottom line, a solid B+.
