Thursday, August 6, 2009 - Outstanding wine, but I feel it's a bit too young. This is different than other Yquems I have enjoyed. The botrytis is less prominent. The wine exhibits strong tropical notes on both the nose and palate. Pineapple, banana, coconut. Floral and honey notes as well. Paired beautifully with both a rich flourless chocolate cake and a creme brulee. Lacks the "edge" of some other top-notch Sauternes, but nevertheless an outstanding experience. Of course you should let it warm a bit in the bottle and glass. Excessive chilling kills this wine.
