Wednesday, August 31, 2016 - First bottle probably lightly corked, second bottle way better. Boy is this good. The layered, powerful brambly dark Zin berry fruit is supported by unobtrusive oak and some gravel-edged tannins. There's plenty of structure but at this stage it's almost totally subsumed by the fruit, which pulls off that deft trick of concentration without heaviness. The label says this was both watered back and acidified, and a) Ridge's honesty about their "manipulations" is admirable, and b) this is a wine that is most likely better for the intrusions. This has the material to age beautifully and it should add complexity with bottle age.
