Thursday, December 6, 2012 - I haven't smelled gooseberries, and that seems to be the consensus dominant aroma that this wine gives off; with that caveat, I offer my impressions:

The color is straw yellow to gold, noticably darker than other white Loire wines. The bouquet is massive, and exceedingly tropical. It put my mind to slightly under ripe papaya, lemon grass, and star fruit, with pineapple, persimmon and kumquat notes. (If gooseberry smells this fragant I've got to find some.) These scents come through on the palate. There is a lot of concentration to this wine, and it offers intrigue and appeal at every phase. There is good structure behind the taste profile and very nice terroir. By Loire standards, I wouldn't call this austere. This wine is a lovely sipper and also performs wonderfully with food. Overall, it is bold, aromatic and beautiful, with plenty of attitude!
