Saturday, October 2, 2021 - Black and red cherry, a good amount of spices and an earthy quality on the nose. Between medium and full bodied (15% ABV) with rounded black cherry upfront and the more depth through the middle. Hints of black raspberry and red cherry in the back, but mostly still black cherry. Spices, strong acidity and tannins provide the structure and contrast on the backside. Like the 2010 La Colombina from last night, this actually seems still on the young side. Given the high ABV and modern style are these taking more time to come around? I essentially waited 11 years to start drinking 2010 brunello and maybe should've waited just a bit more. After almost 5 hours open, the structural qualities are still intense, but slightly more so than the La Colombina, this wine felt like with a bit more time, it could come into better balance. I might hold these for at least another year or so to give the various elements the needed time to come together.
