Saturday, February 29, 2020 - First time with an older Bandol. Stood up for several days then decanted off sediment. Now 1.5h later. Wild almost feral gamey meat aromas with herbs, bark, earth and tart red cherries. The gaminess reminded me a lot of northern Rhone syrahs. The palate, though, is rather different. Unripe plums, herbs, bark, earth and still with prominent tannins on the midpalate. Not much of the gamey meats on the palate. Nice acids lend elegance to the complex wine until the tannins kick in. Not the greatest concentration but that's probably the vintage. Nice moderately long finish. After another 1.5h in bottle, flavors become more harmonious and the texture smoothed out a little more. Still with prominent tannins. I think this could still go and evolve for another 5 years but not sure how much longer than that. I worry that the fruit would dry out before the tannins completely resolve. 91+
