Monday, March 12, 2018 - Quick Note. Tasted at the winery along with the 2005 and 2006 Monte Bello. Seventy-five percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 18 percent Merlot, five percent Cabernet Franc, and two percent Petit Verdot. Of course, good color. Nose and palate are very tight and hard to "toe-hold." It's young and too closed; it needs ten years in the cellar. Elements of dust (or more precisely minerality), blood, raspberry, rose, plus toasted oak that will require time to integrate. Needs a good long decant, but time is really the most important requisite at this stage -- and you can't rush time. Should turn into an elegant, medium-weight Monte Bello. Rating may go up a few points with proper cellaring.
