Thursday, June 17, 2021 - 52nd vintage. Driest ever year - 1/3rd usual rainfall. Earliest harvest ever. 18mo 100% new American oak. Decanted 12hrs

The great thing about Monte Bello is that like Corison, it can be enjoyed young or old, such is the quality. Sometimes when I open a bottle of MB I wonder why I bother chasing around after overpriced, over oaked left bank Bordeaux. As usual, the quality here is fabulous. The wine is seductive and vibrant, with rocks and minerals on the finish. Again, that hint of juniper adding a spicy exotic note to the nose and palate. Great core of dark blackberry and raspberry fruit. First growth quality but unfortunately, prices seem to be catching up. Buy it, cellar it, drink it.
