Saturday, September 12, 2020 - Since last being tasted 11/7/2015, the 2000 La Garde has buffed some of its rough edges and is now far more drinkable. Deep-to-opaque garnet and loaded with black raspberry liqueur on both the nose and palate, it adds notes of Montmorency cherries, anise, black olives, allspice and loamy earth. Full-bodied and with medium-to-high acidity, its previously-astringent tannins have simmered down a bit. The alcohol (13%) is fully integrated and the wood is likewise well-woven. Solid on the middle palate, it proceeds to a medium-length, borderline acerbic finish. This is heading in the right direction, but it still cannot be described as "charming." If you have the room in your cellar, I would favor giving it more time. That said, there are no guarantees with this particular wine, so consumption anytime throughout this decade seems appropriate. Drink now-2030.
