Wednesday, August 24, 2016 - Opened and let air 90-min ahead of seared filet, roasted potatoes, and steamed broccoli. Dark crimson color with a purple/burgundy hue. The nose really opened up after 3+ hours, bringing notes of spring violets, candied raspberries, tart blackberries, fresh strawberries, wild herbs, and subtle whiffs of anise, cinnamon, and vanilla bean. The palate is medium, square, tart, and juicy, bringing lush boysenberries, blueberries, blackcurrant, cassis, dried leather, tobacco, and cherry pie into the finish, which seemed a little thin and uneven. Feels like this wine needs to add some weight to the palate and especially the tail. Still, great flavor profile, structure, and balance, a classic claret. Should be best after 2020.
