Tuesday, August 29, 2017 - Mr. Mondavi would not have been satisfied with this wine. It is unbalanced, the oak dominates all fruit and personality, the short finish does not lead you to another sip. It did okay with a steak but he would ask for more than okay. The color is sound, the nose is French oak with a vague background of ripe (almost over ripe) fruit. The barrel tannins shut the exit down. I think this will improve with some time but it will never be an iron fist in a velvet glove. I do like this wine but am mildly disappointed, winemaking needs to tell marketing that pandering to oak is pedestrian.
