91 Points

Monday, August 20, 2018 - This was one of the very best values I had in 2017, and I've been looking forward to trying it again. First bottle I've had in over 9 months, and it's interesting to note how different it is now. After a short decant, the nose is more muted than last year, showing light aromas of raspberry and tar, and a skosh of smoked pork. Sweet raspberry and milk chocolate notes lead the way on the palate, with a faraway tar note in the background. There's also light barnyard and bacon fat notes providing lift on the finish. Acidity is on the lighter side initially, but becomes more prominent with extended air time. Oak is more noticeable, but not intrusive. The cast of flavors is the same, just showing a thinner version tonight. Still an outstanding wine for 13 bucks.
