Tuesday, April 18, 2017 - Italian Wine Scholar at the Texas Wine School. Clear, medium ruby, with garnet hues. The nose is clean, with black currant, ripe red cherry, plum and some mellow oak influence as a result of 36 months of aging in large Slavonian oak casks. The palate is dry, but laden with ripe, work rich fruit. Medium (+) acidity, medium (+) tannins and high alcohol (14.5%) which, however, is not as noticeable as the stated amount might indicate. It is similar to Ruffino's Gran Selezione, except that the Brunello is more traditional (without the new oak), is warmer, rounder and more generous. This Brunello is barely now entering its optimal drinking window and should reward some additional cellar aging.
