Sunday, September 10, 2017 - We drank this wine the evening before and left some for the next day to re-taste. After 24 hours we experienced the following: The nose has sweet tobacco, raspberry jam, blood orange, allspice black pepper and young leather. On the palate, we were struck by the high acidity, medium tannins, and flavors of elderberry, blackberries, cherries and orange rind. It has a long finish with tobacco, rubber and black pepper.
The same evening that we drank this 2004 our friends shared a 1981 Lopez de Heredia Tondonia with us. By comparison, the 2004 was clearly too young and will benefit from another 10+ years in the bottle. The 1981 still had lots of fruit, it was so round and smooth and the flavors were all nicely integrated.
