Sunday, December 19, 2021 - Deep ruby with an almost black core. No signs of aging except for a small brown rim. Expressive nose (decanted for three hours in a wide carafe) dominated by black forest berries, black currant, as well an an exotic sniff of vanilla, mint and coffee. Full bodied attack, lots of sweet fruit (blackcurrant) in the first part of the tasting curve, the mid part is still fruit dominated but also contains fine grained tannins and a fine acidity, the finish is sweet, black currant, while the aftertaste brings in tones of vanilla and mint. The minty tone lingers on the medium length finish. This is clearly a crowd pleaser of a wine; sweet, round and welcoming. A very good example of the the 15 vintage (it reminds of the drinkability of the 1985s), drinkable now, but will probably age gracefully over the next two decades or so. Drink now if you like the up front fruit, wait fine years if you like your Bordeaux in a more tertiary style. Very good wine, and a good qpr in todays wine market.
