Wednesday, September 9, 2020 - Adventure into Médoc land. Intriguing, not least to see how a Derenoncourt advised winery shapes up after five years. Was he advising in 2015 or only after 2016 when the Moueix took over? I note that the label says "Antoine Moueix Propriétaire" on the label. Makes sense given the time of bottling.
2015: 60% CS, 30% M, 7% CF, 3% PV. As the CS was picked after the rain, you note the dilution.
Colour: medium deep red, medium rim with purple tinge.
Nose: full, fresh, notably CS, notes of oak,
Taste: Med body, soft, quite tannic, medium fruit in a classc style with definite CS flavours. Short finish, moderate fruit.
Overall: hmmm... The Mouiex clan bought the property in 2016. Jury out until their work is done? This wine is good honest Cru Bourgeois Médoc at 13% ABV in a rather old fashioned style. In this age of high alcohol fruitbombs, that is no bad thing for a relaxed supper.
Dinner party fact: the property belonged to the Lords of d'Aux in the 17th Century. Patache means, according to the Larousse, an uncomfortable horse drawn carriage or in "vieux" French, a boat used by the Customs (Douanes). Take your pick!
