Wednesday, February 15, 2017 - A Rieslingfeier of our Own; 2/13/2017-2/18/2017 (Traben-Trarbach, Germany): #11-16. From half-bottle. Of the three GD Auslese that we had, this was by far the leanest. Crisp white minerality balanced by a light touch of yellow fruit. Clearly sweeter than the #5 Spätlese but holding the sweetness in check very well with acidity. The palate finishes with a light touch of green citrus. I thought this was fantastic, until I tasted the other two...

    2/16/2017 8:59:00 AM - @David_K, I found the 2015 vintage the best since 2012. I personally prefer the relative ripeness of 2012, since I don't find the 2012s particularly heavier, and there's still enough acidity to go around. As well, 15 is a bit more yellow than I remember 12 being. Whether you like that or not is a palate preference.
