Friday, December 12, 2014 - Occasional dinner group: Riesling GG and 100 RP point wines: Impressive bouquet with dark fruits, ink, minerals etc. On the palate still backward with a lot of cassis and other dark forest fruits, youthful tannin with a good bite. Still reserved, but spreading through the mouth beautifully. Many in the group gave the wine the perfect score, which it probably deserves, but for now I think the wine needs another 10+ years to show its full beauty. 98++ for tonight.

Pfff, difficult question. The wine has so much potential.... And I am almost sure that on the two occasions I drank the wine, it was popped and poured. But if I had to serve it, I would put it in a decanter at least 4 to 6 hours before drinking. Maybe a safer way to handle this is to just pull the cork 36 hours before drinking. After several hours taste just a little. This gives you an impression and a larger surface for the wine to get some air. You can repeat that a few times and then decide if the wine needs a decanter or not. It probably does. And it is worth the trouble, because this is probably the greatest and most backward Mouton I ever tasted. Hope this is of any help to you.
Cheers,
Zweder.
