Tuesday, September 6, 2011 - Oh my goodness this was a massive monster of a wine.
Double decanted over three hours. Gorgeous extremely deep, rich and concentrated royal ruby color with tints of purple.
The nose was layered and complex. Dark black cherries, elegant and subtle yet structured leather, thick dark chocolate, plum compote.
The flavors caress the tongue. Supple but masculine dark stone fruit, more dark chocolate and coffee grounds. Some black olive and a touch of volcanic rock as well. Great balance on the back end. Long finish with enjoyable heat - you can sense the weight from the alcohol.
The tannins are sweet and not overbearing with a good acidic bank end. Fantastic wine.
