Tuesday, January 31, 2023 - Mourvèdre (Mataro) conjures thoughts of deep, dark, tannic, and often rustic wines. Not everywhere is Bandol, and this Once & Future bottling has a fresher, brighter profile. Red fruit, dusty trail and sun-drenched herb aromas come out at first. Time allows a woodsy (not wood) element into the mix. The palate is barely medium weight, and so quite refreshing, focused on red cherry fruit and more of the dusty trail, along with a hint of worn leather. Tannins are only moderately present, and well balanced to the fruit. It’s a really well put together wine that is enjoyable to drink. That’s really what it’s for, right!
