Friday, October 11, 2019 - From a 1/10th (375). Dark, rich ruby colour with some faint brown edges, high optical density, and medium specular reflectivity. Interesting aromas with decent intensity, showing raspberry, dusty rose pedal, and a spiced gravel note. Plenty of aromatic florals and a sense of the barrel. On the palate, medium body and acidity, with still firm tannins that yield a grippy texture that is weighty and rustic, yet retains a certain charm and elegance. Flavours of bright red fruits on the attack, with some support from forest meadow florals and stone. The midpalate brings on some spices and a twist of tart fruit peels and earth. Not huge intensity here, but okay. The final transition is savoury and as the tannins kick in there is a drying sense of mixed fruit juice before a medium length finish of new leather.

Overall, intensity is medium and complexity is perhaps a touch short of medium. Things seem a bit disjointed, but not really in a bad way, more like in a rustic and understated character- not goofy, but just a bit different. Well made wine for sure, with old world character. A decent food wine that provides a classic experience, but do not go looking for a wow factor or extra special experience here.
