Friday, February 23, 2018 - Prior bottle was almost 11 months ago and this wine has lived up to my expectations, justifying the score I originally gave it. Nose remains pretty much the same with a mix of black raspberry and blackberry, coupled with a sizable amount of oak/vanilla. More medium bodied than previously and while it only needed about 2 hours to open up, it was drunk over 4 and showed better the more time it was given. Fruit profile is identical with black cherry and black raspberry, mixed with blackberry and background red fruit hints. Spices, light mineral and creamy vanilla/oak mark the finish. While I didn't pick up additional qualities in this bottle, it felt like integration and balance had improved and the elements had come together much more harmoniously this time around. Where previously, the oak/vanilla and spices notes showed a bit more than I might have liked, this time around, they were much more in balance with the fruit. There were no rough edges, no harshness, and no elements that stuck out oddly. I expect this wine to continue to improve along these lines and I'll try my next bottle in early 2019. I was originally on the fence, but I'm fully convinced now that I should also purchase the 2015 vintage of this wine.
