Friday, November 29, 2013 - Looks to be dark purple to the edge but the restaurant lighting (Taste and See in Wichita) was dim. Deep, juicy blackberries on the nose. It is a fantastic, multi-layered wine. Rich, dense, chewy fruit, principally blackberry, black currant, and (surprisingly, for me) strawberry notes, all laced with black pepper. A dash of Indian spices, which is much tastier than it sounds in the context of a wine review. Muscular tannins that bode well for another few decades of drinkability. We drank this a bit early - I would guess that this wine will hit its peak within 8-12 years and sit there comfortably for a couple of decades. 14+ percent alcohol, but it does not drink 'hot.' The bottle was a true experience - each sip lasts minutes, with subtle nuances that have to be fully experienced before having another sip minutes later. 96, with significant future upside. What an absolute delight.
