Thursday, August 24, 2023 - The 1964 Brane Cantenac shows the difficulty of the vintage in the Medoc but still does the terroir credit. It's understandable that the rains at harvest created a wine looser and lighter than usual in that era with a slightly hollow palate and a short finish, but there is a pretty, almost Beaune-like quality to the red cherry, warm earth, and allspice-filled nose. This struggles with a bit of volatility and some fecal, barnyard notes, but these usually remain in the background. Decanted off of its sediment and poured immediately, this tails off after about 40 minutes.
