Tuesday, January 1, 2019 - 2018 Visit to Elvio Cogno with Valter Fissore (Ravera, Novello): A big step up from the 2014 Ravera. Complex aromatics of juicy red berries, red cherries, espresso, dark chocolate and tobacco, with a gentle top note of violets. A more classical Barolo after the more Pinot-like Ravera. Bright, ripe, juicy berry fruit. Serious mid palate fruit weight and power. The Bricco Pernice coats the palate. It was pretty closed with an austere, iron-like core. There are chewy tannins on the long finish. Very 2013. Excellent! It needs 7-10+ more years in the cellar, I’d think.
