Friday, February 4, 2022 - Our first bottle of 2014. Good colour. On first opening, there was a touch of farmyard on the nose and it seemed quite austere.
A couple of hours later, there was a hint of sulphur and ‘rubber’ on the nose and the fruit was restrained. The palate showed mainly red fruits and was less rich and complex than earlier vintages. The balance of acidity seemed OK.
Given more time, the nose improved and even hinted at dark cherries. The palate also improved a little and it was drinkable with hearty food.
Based on earlier, excellent, vintages, we had anticipated a great experience but this bottle did not impress as expected. Earlier posters have not had any complaints so maybe this is just a dodgy bottle. We have more so we will see.
