Sunday, January 22, 2023 - Stood up for two weeks. Mid shoulder. Cork broke upon opening. Double decanted for sediment, which was very fine indeed. Drank three hours after opening. A medium ruby core fading to a medium garnet outer edge. Layered and nuanced aromas of dried, cracked vintage leather, shoe polish, a touch of wood smoke, dried lilacs, and a combination of both red and black currents adding some richness. Much of what went before on the nose can also be found on the palate only with the addition of a lightly charred element akin to burnt embers on the finish. A classic, harmonious, mature St Estèphe in an excellent place in its evolution with more than sufficient ability to age for years to come.
