Community Tasting Note

Thursday, July 3, 2008 - Level approx 15mm into the shoulder. Label stained with a couple of streaks of red. Cork soaked all the way through. Mid ruby to garnet at the rim. Nose initially a little musty, cellar-like/bottle stink rather than TCA. Decanted. Sample tasted quite thin and acidic. Started an hour or so later. Opened up beautifully. Slightly spicy blackcurrant nose with hints of cedar and tobacco. Has taken on weight and rounded out nicely. Lovely freshness, purity of fruit and a cool, mineral structure to it. Finished with fresh acidity in balance with the fruit and a slight sense of dry tannin. Very mineral. This is proper claret behaving as it should do. Really lovely. Improves over a couple of hours in the decanter. Hope the remaining bottles with higher levels are as good as this. ****
