Saturday, October 28, 2017 - A hands-off skin-contact Ribolla Gialla: the wine was fermented spontaneously with the skins over a period of 14 days in concrete and aged in acacia barrels for 3 years. Bottled without fining or filtering. 25 mg/l sulfites. 12,5% alcohol. Total production 3,500 bottles.

Medium-deep, even somewhat tawny straw-yellow color. Somewhat restrained and slightly sweet nose with quite umami aromas of fresh apples, wilted peaches, some savory wood, a little bit of something vaguely wild and a touch of mushroomy funk. Overall the nose is subtle and layered with very characterful and attractive aromas. On the palate the wine feels dry, full-bodied and slightly bitter with subtle flavors of ripe mealy apples, roasted spices, some nuttiness, a little bit of earthy umami tones, a savory hint of chopped almonds and a touch of ripe apricots. Overall the wine is quite structured with moderately high acidity and light but firm tannins. The finish is dry, long and somewhat more tannic than the midpalate with moderately noticeable astringency and intense flavors of roasted spices, some savory woody character, a little bit of mealy red apple, a hint of robust earthiness and a touch of ripe apricot.

A very balanced and classic orange wine. Perhaps not the most memorable one, but shows all the hallmark characteristics of the style in a balanced, well-crafted package. Good structure and nice complexity here with good emphasis on the fruit - this isn't an overtly wild and funky wine, but instead a pretty sophisticated and thus quite approachable one. Can be easily paired with a wide variety of dishes and also enjoyed even on its own. A nice effort and worth its price at 22,80€.
