Friday, June 30, 2017 - Began unpromising as to color, clear but tired cranapple.
Nose revealed however that it was not yet sherried, but close.
Taste with food (meats in good strong sauce) was suitably strong and, if not fresh, quiet dark berries and earth, with some depth and leathery smell. More mushroom and overturned-log notes with air. I was liking it a lot and giving it high numbers in my mind.
Color alone was offputting to some drinkers.
Soon enough, as with so many of these past-sell-by bordeaux I have recently been drinking, herbaceous and vegetal tastes and notes overtook all, for a muddy and not pleasing experience by bottle end. You would hardly know it was all merlot.
Navy-blue label, fwiw, handsome and unusual.
