94 Points

Sunday, February 27, 2011 - Popped/poured. Relatively lean but pleasant all the same. A sense of green and cream corn, both in the background. The longer this is open, those notes that start to fade into the background, while at the same time some tannins start to build on the finish. I'm going "90-ish" on this one, and will leave the rest of this for tomorrow, because the tannins become more bold with every keystroke. I'm not smart enough to forecast how this will age, but I am a bit worried about whether there's enough fruit to carry this forward to a graceful old age.

Update: this goes through a dramatic turn on Day 2. Quirky notes - gone. Tannins - tamed. It also develops a very rich body and mouthfeel. Relatively feminine for a Mondavi Reserve, but very, very nice. Score based on Day 2 experience.
