Tuesday, April 25, 2023 - Vieux Telegraphe Vertical (The Sun Street Hotel, Liverpool Street): A medium dark red, a touch of orange. Overt olive on the nose, and a sharp tang of green pepper but this does not continue to the palate and with air the wine develops nicely, with ripe darker fruit dominating rather than red. It has more structure and opulence than any other vintage tasted this evening (although the 2010 runs it close). The double decant has really helped, something I did not do with a bottle consumed in January, and my feelings on it are completely different - if anything it felt youthful and with a way to go rather than on any downward slope! This could just be bottle variation I suppose. As it got more air it really settled, rich, fruity and composed - my second favourite this evening and on the night I thought this was my last bottle but in fact I have one more. Yay!
