Thursday, November 1, 2007 - My first 2005 Chateauneuf. Holy $%*#. In criticizing boring and disapointing wines, I like to use the term uninspiring. This, indeed, would be the rare case where I'd call a wine inspiring. The superb mouthfeel combined with the striking minerality is mind boggling. I couldn't stop thinking about that Lexus commercial where the bearing ball effortlessly rolls along the lines of the car. You cannot help but just roll the wine around in your mouth. Parker is right about the nose (black raspberries, kirsch, ground pepper, and incense). I'm not sure whether to call this new world or old world - maybe it's a new world wine that old world fans would like or maybe it's neither. All I know is it's something special. I can't wait to find out if this is commonplace for the 2005 Chateauneufs.
