2016 Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia

90 Points

Saturday, December 12, 2020 - Might need to be cellared for a long time. Certainly requires a substantial decant/open bottle to bring out its potential. Nothing really fantastic at this stage, but it does change appreciably as it unwinds. Drinkable nice wine, but given its reputation it came up decidedly short (at least for now). Recommend a 2-4 hour full decant for this wine, which is a bad Coravin pour candidate because of how closed the wine is right now after opening or pouring. I can see the possibility of this wine rating (perhaps much) higher after ten years in the cellar. From the perspective of whether this wine is worth $300 a bottle, my answer is an unambiguous "no."
